Advent Buscuits

To be opened and eaten during December

250g butter
165g caster sugar
1 egg
1 tbs. water
335g plain flour
90g fruit drops
zest 1 lemon and 1 orange
1 tbs. cocoa
25g chopped nuts
½ tsp. almond essence

Oven 180C/350F/Nwy 4

Line two baking trays with greaseproof paper. Whisk the butter, sugar, egg and water to create a soft, light mixture. Then add the flour.
Divide the mixture and add the flavour into each of the pieces and put into the fridge for 30 minutes.

Using a rolling pin, smash the fruit drops into little pieces. Then roll out the dough and cut into Christmas shapes. Make a hole in the centre and also make a small hole at the top of the biscuits. You will need 25 biscuits.

Put onto the trays and cook for 5 minutes, then fill the shapes with the sweets. Put back into the oven for 5 minutes and the leave to cool on the tray.
Put a ribbon through the holes of the biscuits and then pack each one individually. Decorate by hanging each biscuit on the branch.
